These wonderfully warped bookshelves look like something you might encounter inside the enchanted halls of Hogwarts. They were created by a design team based in Portland, Maine - Linda and John Meyers, known collectively as Wary Meyers.
The winding book shelves, referred to as Twisted Tales, are a site-specific installation designed for the newly renovated offices of the VIA Advertising Agency, the old Baxter building, which had previously been the Portland, Maine public library from the late 19th century through the 1960s.
The Twisted Tales project page describes the installation as “A Shakespearean reference of the old library’s books “shuffling off this mortal coil”. The books, some of which were actually once in the library’s stacks, were gathered from local bookshops, then twisted and trimmed to fit flush against the paneled wall. There are whimsical, nostalgic Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Harry Potter-esque references also, since it looks magical, and it’s under the stairs.”
